MEC Barry gives money to community police forums (CPFs)

8 April 2010

In a historic move to maximise the participation of communities in the fight against crime, Eastern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Ghishma Barry, has allocated money for 27 cluster community police boards and the CPF provincial board for the day to day running and administration costs of these structures.

MEC Barry made this announcement while addressing the CPF provincial board strategic planning session at the Blue Lagoon Hotel in East London today. The Department of Safety and Liaison has allocated R20 000 to each of the 27 cluster community police boards and R30 000 to the CPF provincial board.

"For many years, the Department of Safety and Liaison has been unable to provide a solution to the challenge of lack of resources for our CPF structures. This cash injection will enable you to constantly reach out to our communities and listen to the people, understand their concerns and practically take up issues their raise regarding crime and prevention thereof. I would like to call upon all of you to spend this money wisely and understand that you must account for government funds," said MEC
Barry.
