Slain Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) leader Eugene Terre'Blanche’s family on Sunday welcomed Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa's assurance during his compassionate visit to the house and scene of crime at his farm outside Ventersdorp that no stone will be left unturned to get to the bottom of the motive for the killing of the 69 year old farmer.
Minister Mthethwa who was accompanied by North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa, Ventersdorp Mayor Celia Phoyane and General Bheki Cele of the South African Police Service and the top brass of the police was warmly received at the Terre'Blanche household. Government’s condolences as expressed by Mthethwa were accepted by ET’s daughter, Beya. She further assured the minister that the family has confidence in the local police. Andries Terre'Blanche, brother to ET and his niece, Cornelia Nieber also expressed their confidence in the leadership of the police led by the minister but also called for tougher action against those responsible for farm attacks.
In his engagement with the family and AWB generals, Minister Mthethwa highlighted that government is prepared to engage with all stakeholders including the leadership of the AWB to strengthen rural safety with a view to prevent farm attacks. Meanwhile, a meeting between Mthethwa and solidarity is scheduled for Wednesday this week to discuss among others implementation of the rural safety strategy to prevent farm attacks. An urgent meeting with the leadership of the AWB is to be prioritised by Minister Mthethwa and MEC Yawa.
Eugene Terre'Blanche’s two employees aged 21 and 15 who were arrested in connection his murder after an alleged dispute over outstanding payment are expected to appear at the Ventersdorp Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
