Transport pre-Budget vote media briefing

Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele will address a transport pre-budget vote media briefing on Tuesday, 13 April 2010.

Details of the briefing are as follows:

Minister Ndebele will table the 2010/11 Transport Budget Vote in the Old Parliament Chamber in Cape Town on Tuesday, 13 April 2010 commencing at 16h00. The Minister will outline key transport priorities for the current financial year, including an update on plans for the 2010 FIFA World Cup as well as measures to address road infrastructure maintenance challenges.

The department’s key focus areas include:

* Increasing investment in the transport sector through Public Private Partnerships
* The modernisation of the transport system through the introduction of latest technology
* Skills development across all modes of transport
* Promotion of local transport industries through a competitive procurement framework.

Service delivery priority areas include transport infrastructure, public transport, safety, job creation, protection of the environment and rural transport.
