The Gauteng Provincial Government will from 3 to 7 May rollout the 2010 World Cup Community Mobilisation Roadshows scheduled to take place in the Sedibeng area.
This is an initiative by the Gauteng Provincial Government, in partnership with Transnet, aimed at mobilising communities to rally behind the national team and ensure a successful World Cup. The move will also see a Transnet-Gauteng Provincial Government branded truck visiting schools, churches and malls in all regions of the province until the World Cup kicks off.
“The Gauteng Provincial Government is using this opportunity to interact directly with our communities and to galvanize their support for our national team,” said Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Nelisiwe Moerane.
“We are also implementing the Gauteng 2010 Gateway campaign launched by the Premier last year as our provincial social mobilisation programme to create hype around the 2010 World Cup,” said MEC.
The activities during the roadshows will include ball juggling, diski dancing, face painting, five – aside soccer tournaments, coaching clinics by soccer legends and performances by local artists. There are also competitions, which form part of the weekly programme, where exciting
2010 related giveaways are awarded to winning participants.
The Sedibeng roadshow will culminate in a Football Friday activity day at Shoprite in Sebokeng Zone 14, opposite Mphatlalatsane Theatre on 7 May 2010, where the Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane, and MEC Moerane are expected to attend.
