Executive Council meeting

30 June 2010

The Executive Council of the North West government held its regular meeting on 30 June 2010, Garona building, Mafikeng, North West province.

The Executive Council wishes to send its sense of gratitude to the sterling work performed by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture; Rustenburg City Council; South African Police Service (SAPS), various local organising committees (LOCs) all government departments that participated in the games.

Special thanks are dedicated to the Royal Bafokeng under the stewardship of Kgosi Leruo Molotlegi for the hospitality, state of the art facilities, stadia and warm welcome of the Bafokeng community.

The Premier of the North West, Mme Maureen Modiselle wishes to dispel rumours that she has resigned or she has fired or dismissed any member of the Executive Council.

These allegations about resignations and dismissals are nothing but a smear campaign by individuals and groups who are opposed to the smooth running and anti-corruption democratic governance in the North West.

The provincial government is committed to implement all government priorities to improve the lives of ordinary people by creating jobs and reducing poverty levels. The provincial government is solid, intact and on track on all programmes within the confines of the constitution.

Executive Council invoked section 139 (1)b of the Constitution on the Mafikeng local municipality with immediate effect. The intervention imposed will seek to bring stability on the following areas:

* governance and administration
* service delivery
* financial management and
* good labour relations practice

Executive Council approved the disposal of North West Housing Corporation property portfolio in relation to houses occupied before 1 May 2005. (Houses occupied before 1 May 2005 will be disposed off for not more than R50 000. Occupants of houses will be required to pay not more than R50 000.

The provincial government will round up youth month activities in Ramatlabama on 30 June 2010, with a hive of youth service programmes.

In line with national government, the Executive Council will embark on Mandela Week from 12 to 18 July 2010, which will culminate to two major events in Mokgalwaneng and Makaunyane in the Bojanala Platinum district.

We wish to encourage our people to continue their pilgrimage to fan fests, public viewing areas until the end of the games. The world cup has just begun, we must darn our jerseys, blow vuvuzelas, wave our flags.

Our support goes to Ghana, the BLACK STARS OF AFRICA.
