Closure of Traditional Council offices

North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs calls for cooling of heads among Bahurutshe ba Moiloa Boo Ramotshere

25 Feb 2011

North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Paul Sebego, is calling for calm and cool heads among the opposing factions of Bahurutshe ba Moiloa Boo Ramotshere tribe, following the closure of Traditional Council offices.

Traditional Offices were shut down yesterday by unknown people and the offering of community services was brought to a standstill.

Sebegoe had instructed officials from his department to look into the matter as well as ensuring that the offices are unlocked and operational.

There has been a succession dispute since the death of Kgosi Monnaamere J Godfrey Moiloa in 2007. This resulted in a number of court cases and the appointment of an acting Chief, Jubilee Moiloa.

There are also allegations of the existence of a descendant of Kgosi Pogiso Grant Ramotshere Moiloa whom it is suggested is the rightful heir to the chieftain of Bahurutshe Ba Moiloa Boo Ramotshere.

Sebegoe will, on Wednesday, 2 March 2011, meet with the varying factions laying claim to the Royal House, the concerned group as well as members of the community in a quest to resolve their differences.
