Today 11 August 2011, a 30 year old police official, Elmon Jacob Motha
appeared before the Badplaas Periodical Court on charges of stock theft.
In June this year, ten cattle valued at R45 000 were reported stolen
from a farm in Badplaas. The owners informed the police that the stock
was spotted in Tjakastad near Ermelo.
Upon arrival at the house, police met a man who claimed to be the owner
of the cattle. He even produced documents as proof of payment. When he
realised that the police had authentic information, he admitted to
purchasing the cattle from a police official.
Further investigation revealed that the police official, Constable
Motha, was travelling in a state vehicle when the transaction occurred.
The case has been postponed to 18 August 2011 for formal bail application.
