The Minister of Economic Development, Ebrahim Patel, today welcomed the decision by the Foschini Group (TFG) to buy into the South African clothing manufacturing sector by purchasing one of its suppliers, Prestige Clothing, a Cape Town based clothing factory.
Minister Patel said “this is a vote of confidence in the South African clothing manufacturing industry and will be a boost for local jobs”.
"The local procurement Accord signed three months ago with business and labour, established a common national commitment to strengthening local supply chains, creating more jobs and improving the competitiveness of South African factories. This transaction can contribute positively to achieving these goals" he said.
Note to editors: The Local Procurement Accord was signed on 31 October 2011 and committed business, labour, government and communities to a partnership to increase domestic procurement and local manufacturing capacity.
