Update on Board of Inquiry: National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Bheki Cele

In October last year President Zuma announced the establishment of the Board of Inquiry to look into allegations of misconduct by the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), General Bheki Cele or into his fitness for the office or into his capacity for the execution of his duties efficiently, in relation to the procurement of office accommodation for the South African Police Service in Pretoria and Durban, as part of the findings and recommendations of the Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela.
The President suspended the National Commissioner from duty with all his benefits, pending the outcome of the Board of Inquiry.
The Board has since its appointment been undertaking preparations including finding offices, appointing staff and undertaking legal preparations. They have finalised the preparations and it is expected that public hearings will begin next month. Details regarding public hearings will be communicated at a later stage.
The composition of the Board of Inquiry is as follows:

- Justice Jake Moloi (Chairperson)
- Advocate Terry Motau SC
- Advocate Anthea Platt
Advocate Lisa Tsatsi has been appointed as the Secretary of the Board.
