Dear Petrus Enclosed is a Electronic Newsletter from Motorsport South Africa for your information. | MEDIA RELEASE For Immediate Publication 2012 SA NATIONAL JNR AND SNR NATIONAL MOTOCROSS SEASON TO START AT SYRINGA The official 2012 SA National Motocross Championship for junior and senior competitors will kick off this weekend (25 February) at the Syringa MX Track at Muldersdrift in Gauteng with a substantial prize fund of nearly R40 000 as well as TV coverage. Held under Motorsport SA (MSA), this opening round of the 2012 SA National MX Championships will again attract competitors from all over South Africa with the Syringa MX Track the fitting venue for the season opener. Located in the green hills of Muldersdrift, the track has seen nearly five decades of Motocross with its first event in 1969. Owner, Jannie Stander, has put in a huge amount of effort and time over the years to develop it to its current high standard that makes for safe and exciting racing, including the addition of start gates for this weekend. Stander says 99% of the original track, which promises fast and flowing racing on natural terrain, has been incorporated in the new design which makes it very European. Like all forms of motorsport, the ever popular Motocross formula also needs to be developed and MSA has made One-Event licences available to those riders who want to try MX racing before they decide to compete on a more regular basis in the future. Competitors holding National licences for Off-road motorcycles, Trials and Supermoto who do not see their way open to compete against the motocross regulars, can enter in the Enduro/Off-road Support Class. In the Junior MX Championship youngsters between the ages of 4 and 9 years can compete in the MX 50cc Class while the MX 65cc Class makes provision for young riders between 7 and 11 years who rides 65cc-powered bikes with clutch lever and gears. Riders between 8 and 13 years can compete in the MX 85cc Class. The Senior MX classes comprise the MX Pro Mini Class, making provision for young competitors (10-15 years) on 85cc 2-stroke or 150cc 4-stroke motorcycles that meet the rules and regulations of the class. Another Senior MX class for youngsters is the MX High School where teens between 13 and 17 years can compete with 2-stroke motorcycles with engines no bigger than 126cc. All the motorcycles must also comply to the MSA rules especially regarding the size of tyres. There is also a variety of classes in the senior championship including the MX1 (250cc 2-stroke or 450cc 4-stroke motorcycles) and MX2 (250cc 4-stroke and 125cc 2-stroke motorcycles) classes as well as MX 3 where riders older than 29 years can compete with any size bike. Female competitors are also welcome as provision is made for them competing in a variety of classes while there is also an MX Support and Enduro/Off-road Support Classes. There will be overall prize money that will be paid in the MX1 and MX2 Classes as follows: the winner will receive R3 000; the runner-up will get R2 000 while third-place will receive R1 000 and the rider in fourth place will receive R800. In the 50cc, 65cc, 85cc Junior, Pro Mini, High School, MX3, Enduro, MX Support and 50cc Support Classes the winner will receive R1 200; the runner-up will get R1 000 while third-place will receive R800 and fourth-placed finisher will walk away with R500. The prize money will be paid out to the first 4 riders if there are more than 8 riders in the class while the first 3 riders will get prize money if there are between 5-8 riders in the class. If there are 4 riders in a class, the prize money will be paid to 1st and 2nd place finishers. Unfortunately no prize money will be paid to classes with less than 3 riders in the class. Spectators are most welcome to come and experience some of South Africa's best MX riders in action and enjoy the day filled with competitive racing at the Syringa MX Track. The practice heats will start at 08:30 while the first race will kick off at 11:00.
