Cyber Security Policy gets Cabinet's thumbs up

Pretoria - Cabinet has approved the National Cyber Security Policy Framework for South Africa, says the Ministry of State Security.

The policy framework outlines policy positions intended to address national security threats related to cyberspace; combat cyber warfare, cybercrime and other cyber ills; develop, review and update existing substantive and procedural laws; and build trust in the secure use of information and communication technologies, the ministry said.

The policy framework will see structures and institutions being established to coordinate the work of security cluster departments.

"The policy framework identifies specific areas of responsibility by a number of government departments and the State Security Agency is tasked with overall responsibility and accountability for coordination, development and implementation of cyber security measures in the country, as an integral part of its mandate," the ministry added.

The Justice Crime Prevention and Security Cluster is expected to provide more details on the policy framework. - BuaNews
