The North West Department of Public Safety is to host special Easter prayer services throughout all districts in the province to spiritually and emotionally prepare and empower for law enforcement officers who will be on duty during the Easter long weekend.
The first service for Dr. Ruth Mompati district is to be held on Wednesday, 24 March 2010 at Mmabana Cultural Centre in Taung.
The objective of the joint prayer services is to motivate and challenge traffic, police and correctional officers to maximize their performance, uphold high moral standards and ethical behaviour as they about executing their official duties and render effective law enforcement during the long weekend characterized by heavy traffic volumes on public roads.
The programme for the second service to be held in Ngaka Modiri Molema district includes the provincial launch of the Speed to Easter campaign by MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa. The service is scheduled to be held at the Mahikeng Civic Centre at 10h00 on Thursday, 25 March 2010.
The closing item for the programme will be the intercession for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, road safety, and protection of law enforcers and cleansing of the R503 Mafikeng to Lichtenburg road. The exact location for the intercession and cleansing being the spot where six people, four of whom were Egyptian nationals died tragically in a head on collision accident last Wednesday.
The third prayer service scheduled for Dr Kenneth Kaunda district is to be held at Potchefstroom city hall on Monday, 29 March 2010, while that of Bojanala Platinum district is to be held at Mogwase Prison on Wednesday, 31 March 2010.
All the joint prayer services commence at 10h00 and involve chaplains from the North West Public Safety Traffic Management, South African Police Service (SAPS), Correctional Services, interdenominational women church organisations and pastors from local churches.
