Limpopo Premier, Mr Cassel Mathale will lead a government delegation to the People’s Republic of China on a trade and investment promotion mission. The delegation will leave on 11 of April and return on 18 April 2010.
The premier will be accompanied by the MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, Mr Pitsi Moloto, MEC for Local Government and Housing, MEC Soviet Lekganyane, Executive Mayor of Waterberg, Councillor Eric Gwangwa, Mayor of Lephalale, Councillor Rosinah Mogotlane, representatives of organised business, particularly in the coal industry, and senior government officials.
The delegation will participate in the 2010 World Coal to Liquids Congress in Beijing. In this congress; the experts and investors will converge to share experiences and expertise in the development of coal to liquid technology and new forms of beneficiation opportunities that would complement the conventional electricity generation. This would also enable the industry to contribute immensely to the current challenge of skyrocketing energy demand throughout the world.
"Our new Limpopo employment growth and development plan identifies the need for downstream beneficiation of coal and diversification and therefore this 2010 World Coal to Liquids Congress in Beijing could not have come at the right time", said the Premier of Limpopo, Cassel Mathale.
"We would also like to take this opportunity to applaud the Word Bank on its recently announced decision to borrow ESKOM R28 billion to complete Medupi power station in Lephalale. We believe this will go a long way towards responding to the challenge of continuous power outage and cuts in the province, the country and the entire Southern African Development Community (SADC) region", Premier Mathale emphatically stressed.
Limpopo is replete with a lot of natural resources including platinum group metals, diamonds, chrome, iron ore, copper and coal. Given its global competitive advantage in these commodities and massive investments going on in Lephalale, Medupi power station, this 2010 world congress provides Limpopo with a unique opportunity to interact with experts and potential investors in coal mining and beneficiation industry.
The premier and his entourage will also have meetings with potential investors in coal sector and key policy makers from the National Planning and Reform Commission, the regional governor of Inner Mongolia and the local administration of Shenhua.
Meanwhile, the premier has appointed Mr Namane Dickson Masemola, the MEC for Education to act as the premier of Limpopo province for the entire duration of the visit
