Gauteng Finance MEC, Mr Mandla Nkomfe, will deliver the keynote address to the Gauteng quarterly Municipal Finance Indaba. The indaba will focus on planning for high impact service delivery through a discussion about:
* Key national, provincial and local government priorities, 2010/11 municipal budgets
* The impact of the economic downturn and implications for municipal revenues
* Assessment and implications of the increase in electricity prices
* The effect of increases in labour costs in relation to tariff restructuring
* Assessment of the global performance of municipalities in relation to declining capital budgets, increased debtors and delays in payment of creditors.
The indaba will also conduct an assessment of the municipalities' integrated development plans for the past five years, analyse progress on the implementation of the local government turnaround strategy. The analysis will look at the extent the municipalities have moved in leveraging on existing resources to alleviate existing developmental pressures.
The Municipal Finance Indaba is a forum made up of the MEC of Finance, all members of mayoral committees responsible for finance, the heads of provincial Departments of Finance and Housing and Local Government, accounting officers of municipalities and is convened by the Department of Finance.
