Zuma on the formation of the coalition government in UK

Statement by President Zuma on the formation of the coalition government in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

12 May 2010

President of the Republic of South Africa, HE Jacob Zuma has today, Wednesday, 12 May 2010, expressed on behalf of the government and people of South Africa, his congratulations at the news of the formation of the coalition government and the appointment of Mr David Cameron as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The South African government is looking forward to working with the new government in consolidating and strengthening political and economic relations that exist between the two countries.

President Zuma wished Mr Cameron well in his new position and reconfirmed his appreciation of the excellent, warm and close relations that exist between the two countries and their people.

Furthermore, he expressed his wish that these close ties will continue to prosper during Mr Cameron’s term of office.
