This week marks the arrival of some of the world soccer teams in our beloved country. The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) is pleased to welcome Australia and Brazil the first teams out of the 31 teams to arrive this week in the country.
With 13 days and few hours to go before the start of the FIFA World Cup it is important that as a country we not only focus on winning the first and other games but also heed to the rules of the road. Traffic law violation is one of the major concerns of the RTMC and road crashes being another cause of deaths in the country. The violation of road laws would result in a crash or a fatal crash and therefore we urge the motorists to adhere absolutely to the laws and rules of the road at all times.
The international visitors will have to get used to keeping the left side of the road when driving, “Keep left – pass right”. The enforcement authorities in all the provinces have worked out a critical road safety plan to promote and enforce compliance with legislation and also to control safe movement of traffic. “I do firmly believe that given the battle plan that is in place for 2010 FIFA World Cup and the commitment of the officials countrywide, there will be a high level of safety on the roads. I however appeal to our motorists to be considerate and patience on the road and accommodate the presence of foreigners on our roads,” concludes Collins Letsoalo, the Acting CEO of the RTMC.
