30 Jan 2012
On Monday, 30 January 2012, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, will be meeting with the residents of Khayelitsha to discuss one of the province’s Strategic Objectives – Increasing Safety, and the after school activities available to children in the area.
Following reports of increased gang violence in Khayelitsha, involving mostly youth, Minister Plato has invited the parents of children in Khayelitsha to raise their concerns with him and to inform them about the after school sport activities in the area.

As part of the Western Cape Government’s approach to prevent anti-social behaviour, and to provide alternative opportunities to the youth, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) has introduced Sport MOD centres (Mass participation, access to Opportunity and Development) at more than 100 schools across the province – 6 of these centres operate in Khayelitsha. DCAS officials will be in attendance to talk about the MOD centres.
