KwaZulu-Natal Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize today (31 January 2012) launched the Sukuma Sakhe Operation in KwaMashu's D Section, Durban. The launch also unveiled a new partnership with Leleti School Grounds project, which will focus on spreading the Sukuma Sakhe message to learners in schools, which are at the coal-face of all social problems including alcohol and drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, the effects of violence and poverty in the community.
When launching the war room in Ward 11, Dr Mkhize introduced officials from various government departments who had to deal with a number of service delivery issues on the spot. Dr Mkhize explained that the war room is a platform where communities can interact with government.
“If you want to know what progress is being made in your ward, go to the war room and the information will be available there. If you are not happy, there are various ways for you to get in touch with us,” said Dr Mkhize emphasising the need for communities to get involved in all government programmes.
